Winter can be a tough time for our skin. Whether it’s the result of a long cold winter, too much time spent indoors, or a general lack of sleep, that dull and dehydrated feeling can be all-consuming. But don’t despair! There are two superhero active ingredients — niacinamides and natural AHAs — that can get you radiant and glowy in no time.
The lowdown on niacinamides
As the active form of Vitamin B3, niacinamides work wonders at decreasing pore size, excess oil and inflammation while creating a brightening effect. They also help to strengthen the skin's barrier by building keratin proteins, which protect it from environmental damage. This can be especially important during the winter when the air is dry.
What about AHAs?
As the temperature drops, your skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down, which can lead to a buildup of dead skin cells. This can make your skin look dull and lackluster. Natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids (otherwise known as AHAs) are gentle exfoliators that promote cell turnover by breaking down the substance that holds skin cells together. They are most commonly found in fruits like sugarcane, lemon and orange, and are true masters of sloughing off dead skin to reveal a new, smooth layer underneath.
